Fokkernews September 2022 (issue 57)

General news

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has expressed concerns regarding decreased competition after the intended acquisition of Alliance Airlines by Qantas.

Air Niugini has started looking for replacements for its Fokker fleet, but not before 2024. Currently the airline has seven F100s and six F70s, of which one and two respectively, are stored.

11106 1000 C-FTAV Canadian Regional. After years delay due to the pandemic, the preparations are now almost ready for the last trip of this iconic Fellowship. Current plan is to transport it in September by road from Saskatoon to Lethbridge for the Time Air museum, weather permitting.
11369 100 YR-FKB Carpatair. Returned home (Arad) from Riga on 12 September 2022, and the Air Baltic contract was taken over by YR-FZA.
11395 100 YR-FZA Carpatair. Ferried from Stuttgart to Riga 11 September 2022 for continuing the Summer lease to Air Baltic. Just like sister ship YR-FKB, there are no external signs of this lease.
11462 100 EP-FQG Qeshm Airlines. On 29 June 2022 flight QB2118 to Muscat burst a tire on takeoff from Mashad airport, damaging the fuselage. The crew entered a holding pattern for burning fuel and returned to mashad for a safe landing. There were no injuries and only minor damage to the aircraft.
11522 100 EP-ASR Iran Aseman. A picture on Jetphotos showed this F100 landing in Tehran on 1 September 2022 in an updated livery. Apparently is has been reactivated after being in storage since 2014.
11562 070 5B-DDF 5Y- I-Fly Air. Seen in full colors at Woensdrecht 16 September 2022, without registration (only 'DF' on nosewheel door)

An aerial view of the cargo ramp of Jomo Kenyatta airport shows 5 Fokkers parked. From left to right 5Y-GMD (10378), 5Y-WFA (20121), 5Y-SIA (11307), 5Y-SEP (10295) and 5Y-SEC (10550). (Enzo Cattania on Flickr; Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta, 11 August 2022)

Former SOM Express 5Y-SMS (20112) is now all white, so presumably lease ended and it was returned to Skyward Express. (Freightdog DUB on Flickr; Nairobi-Jomo Kenyatta, 12 August 2022)

Not unexpectedly, Fokker 50E 5Y-GMS (20147) that Aerospace Consortium recently acquired, is operating in a completely colorless livery. Traces of the previous operator’s tail logo are still visible. (Freightdog DUB on Flickr; Nairobi-Jomo Kenyatta, 12 August 2022)

Renegade Air 5Y-SMQ (20202) no has longer titles and tail logo, so the question is which unknown operator is using this F50, possibly Skyward Express? (Freightdog DUB on Flickr; Nairobi-Jomo Kenyatta, 14 August 2022)

Now all remaining F50s have been sold, Alliance Airlines has started preparing the aircraft for transfer to their new operator. VH-FKZ (20286) is seen here without titles and tail logo making a short local testflight. (Dean Sperandio on Flickr; Adelaide, 8 September 2022)

Since Insel Air went bankrupt in 2019, their aircraft were sitting close to the runway and the terminal at Curaçao airport. The airport authorities now have cleared the area and moved the last three unused aircraft to a remote spot, amongst which F50 PJ-KVO (20297). This Fokker misses both engines, but  looks intact otherwise. (Urli Johnny Profas on Facebook; Curaçao, 2 September 2022)

Also VH-FKW (20306) was noted without Alliance Airlines titles and logos. Presumably VH-FKZ and VH-FKW will be the first to be delivered to the new operator. (Tony Haynes on Flickr; Adelaide, 26 August 2022)

One of the oldest Fellowships still in existence is this private TU-TGW (11047), a F28-1000. It looks in a reasonably good condition, but we strongly doubt whether it is still airworthy as its last known flight dates back to 2018. (Rednasz on Flickr; Lomé-Gnassingbe Eyadema, 28 August 2022)
