Fokkernews June 2025 (issue 90)

General news

Air Niugini has signed a firm order with Airbus for two more A220-100s, adding to six already on order. The A220 replaces the obsolete F70 and F100 that are slated to leave the fleet later this year.

Virgin Australia has announced to deploy Boeing 737 aircraft on the services from Brisbane to Mount Isa and Townsville, starting late July and November 2025, respectively. Currently the routes are operated by partner Alliance Airlines with F100.

Network Aviation, flying as QantasLink, has selected the Embraer E190 as the preferred type for replacing their Fokker 100 fleet. In addition Network will receive four Airbus A320 aircraft from Jetstar Asia, enabling the earlier retirement of four F100 aircraft.

10199 100 CX-BHV Former Uruguayan Air Force F27 (T-560) was an eye catcher at a classic car and scrap dealer in Neptunia, Montevideo for over 30 years. Recently it was sold to a person calling himself "El rey de poliuretano" (King of Polyurethane). The only condition was not to paint the outside, because the previous owner considered it 'part of our history'. Therefore the new owner just applied stickers with his logo on the airframe and moved it to Maldonado, somewhat more east of its previous location.
20258 50 5Y-GMI SE-LFE Largus Aviation had the Swedish registration cancelled on 17 June 2025 on lease to Jetways Airlines Ltd, with the Kenyan registration issued 18 June 2025. The F50 arrived at Nairobi-Wilson on 23 June 2025.
unknown 50 7Q-SMO Unknown operator. Seen at Mogadishu 28 May 2025, all white without titles or logos. Identity is unknown as yet, but according to our wild guess the aircraft could be former 5Y-SMO (20223).
34 27F LV-WDN Pampa Lineas Aereas. Sitting for many years at Ángel S. Adami airport in Melilla, Uruguay, the remains of this Fairchild played the central role in a large rescue exercise by the fire brigade, medical services, police, ministry of Aviation and the Red Cross on 24 June 2024.

11187 4000 YU-AOJ Montenegro Airlines, last operated by Air One Nine in Libya, has reportedly been parted out. It was stored at Tripoli for many years, lately in derelict condition.
11314 100 VH-XWS Alliance Airlines appears to have retired this F100 on 31 December 2024 at Adelaide. It was ferried 2 January 2025 to Rockhampton for storage. Most likely it will not fly again.
11399 100 VH-NHP Network (QantasLink). In contrast to previous plans, Network now has decided not to repair this F100 after it became damaged during its last flight to Perth on 11 February 2025.
11465 100 VH-NHK Network (QantasLink). This F100 has been stripped of all useful parts and what remains is waiting for the scrapman.
11473 100 P2-AND Air Niugini. Adding to the previous edition: the aircraft is broken up.
11585 70 2-PJAB PJ-JAB The new registration was entered into the Guernsey register on 6 May 2025 and the new owner is Airline Technical Support Caribe B.V.. This seems to be a sister company of Airline Technical Support B.V. that in the past years has supplied several F70 and F100 aircraft to operators in Kenya.

Because the new owner of former Uruguayan Air Force T-560 (CX-BHV, 10199) had agreed not to repaint the Friendship hull, he applied stickers promoting his business and had it transported to his own premises in Maldonado, Montevideo. (Sebastian Fernandez and Juan Redes Perez; Montevideo-Neptunia, 10 June 2025)

Another ‘new’ F50 for a Kenyan operator. Amapola has delivered 5Y-GMI (20258, previously SE-LFE) to Jetways Airlines. The tail logo clearly reveals one of the previous users, namely Leading Edge (Leascor) from the Philippines. (Thomas Carlborg? via Davey van Broeck; Nairobi-Jomo Kenyatta, 25 June 2025)

The high concentration of Fokker aircraft in East Africa often brings us nice surprises, like this all-white F50 7Q-SMO, registered in Malawi. Unfortunately, its identity and operator remain a mystery as yet. (André Alders; Mogadishu, 28 May 2025)

At first sight this F70 looks boring, but the lack of titles becomes understandable if one knows that 5Y-MMB (11559) is flying for Saacid Air, still carrying the tail logo of previous operator Salaam Air, and is actually operated by Renegade Air. (André Alders; Mogadishu, 28 May 2025)
